The Alex Wilson Trio are a London-based contemporary jazz group, featuring three of most exciting improvisers on the UK scene. Each in demand across London’s premier jazz venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, The Vortex, The Jazz Café and others, the trio combine a serious command over their instruments with an intense and captivating group dynamic. Their music draws on contemporary jazz composers from the European and American jazz scenes, while also touching on classical music, folk song, and contemporary electronic music.
Since arriving on the London jazz scene in 2019, Alex has been attracting attention for his nuanced, versatile, and dynamic approach to the piano. Currently engaged in a range of projects from jazz/electronic fusion, contemporary pop, to straight-ahead jazz, Alex’s playing is regularly showcased at top venues in the UK and in Europe, including recent performances at Jazzkaar Festival, Estonia, La Petite Halle, Paris, the London Jazz Festival, and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. Alex’s music for piano trio represents a new chapter in his creative work and speaks to his wide range of influences and musical experiences. He was awarded the Royal Academy of Music’s Scott Philbrick Jazz Prize in 2022 for his outstanding performance, and has previously received the Countess of Munster Postgraduate Award as well as a sponsorship from the Universal Music UK Sound Foundation.
Alex is joined by two of London’s most exciting young talents in Jack Thomas on the drums and John Jones on bass.
