Join the Martin-Lockett Quintet for an evening celebrating the centenary of the “Prince of Darkness”. Bridging two generations of British jazz, “visionary” trumpeter Alistair Martin (Tom Smith, Shirley Smart) and legendary saxophonist Mornington Lockett (Ronnie Scott, Stan Tracey) explore the chameleonic legacy of Miles Davis. From the iconic cool of the 1950s to the fiery innovations of his later eras, this is a powerhouse tribute to an icon of style, and restless reinvention.
Mornington Lockett
Saxophonist, composer, arranger and teacher Mornington Lockett studied at Dartington College of Arts, gaining a first class honours degree, before moving to London to attend the Guildhall School of Music And Drama as a post-graduate. As a member of the Ronnie Scott Quintet, Mornington toured widely, in the U.K. and internationally. He has recorded more than 50 albums with a wide variety of artists, including Ronnie Scott, Jim Mullen, Stan Tracey, Don Grusin, Martin Drew, Claire Martin, Sarah Jane Morris and Ian Shaw. Recent commercial studio work includes a session with Oasis. Mornington has also played with many international jazz artists including Jimmy Smith, Arturo Sandoval, Franco Ambrosetti, Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen, Dave Weckl, Bernard Purdie, Phil Upchurch, Jon Faddis, Ulf Wakenius, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Gabòr Bolla, Nicolas Meier, Georgie Fame and Jack DeJohnette.
Alistair Martin
Trumpeter and Composer Alistair Martin has been described as having a “compelling and visionary sound”. After studying Jazz at the Royal Academy of Music, he released his debut album ‘Oblivion’ in 2021 on Unit Records (Presto Music), to acclaim from publications Jazzthing, Jazz’n’More and Concerto Magazine. Beyond his solo work, Alistair is a highly sought-after collaborator, performing regularly with many Jazz groups including the Tom Smith Big Band, Shirley Smart Sextet and Mornington Lockett quintet. An accomplished composer, he has been commissioned to create new works by the Royal College of Music. His work as a session player includes Chisara Agor and international Afrobeats artists Buju and Stefflon Don

Kezia Abuoma is a London-based pianist and composer. An alum of Tomorrow’s Warriors and student at Trinity Laban, she has made her mark on the contemporary jazz scene both as a bandleader and sought-after sidewoman.Kezia has performed on some of the world’s most iconic stages, from Ronnie Scott’s and the Jazz Café to The Vortex and Dizzy’s Club at New York’s Lincoln Center. Her trio, SULA – featuring Miranda Radford (drums) and Aleks Dimitrova (bass) – comprise three unique voices that perform original compositions and other music inspired by the energetic, contemporary sound of Kris Davis, Kenny Kirkland, and Jeff “Tain” Watts. Together, they have performed at the King’s Place, Battersea Jazz Festival, Jazz Re:freshed, and the Southbank Centre. Kezia is also a key part of the ensemble Ankora, performing at Love Supreme Jazz Festival, We Out Here, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, and Brick Lane Jazz Festival.Kezia’s performances feature her original compositions inspired by the likes of Geri Allen, Herbie Hancock, and Wayne Shorter, alongside fresh, inventive interpretations of jazz standards and other works — all delivered with a distinctive voice that marks her as one to watch.

Award-winning, London-based jazz bass player, composer and arranger Misha Mullov-Abbado has played at the East Side a few times including leading his own sextet He is a musician who combines great imagination with raw talent and a clear vision. A BBC New Generation Artist and with three critically acclaimed albums on Edition Records under his name, his most recent offering Effra showcases his ‘melodic gift’ (John Fordham, The Guardian) and ability to masterfully combine beautifully-crafted compositions with free-spirited improvisation. Written over a three-year period the self-produced album, released in early 2025 on Ubuntu Music, marks the arrival of an artist who has been on a voyage of self-discovery.

Miranda Radford is a 19-year-old drummer who is most definitely ‘up and coming’ on the London jazz scene. Her influences and inspirations include the work of jazz legends such as Tony Williams, Max Roach, Wayne shorter and Cedar Walton. Miranda has performed at venues such as Love Supreme, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Jazz Club and more.
